Financial Administrator I
A&S Department of Chemistry
The Department of Chemistry in the McMicken College of Arts & Sciences is looking for a Financial Administrator I. This position reports to the Assistant Department Head, Dr. James Mack, and performs a variety of financial transactions, reports and support functions for the department. The person in this position will be responsible for all departmental purchasing and ordering via the use of an assigned purchasing-card or other university-approved methods. Strict adherence to the financial policies and procedures of the department, college and university is expected. In addition, this position is responsible for asset acquisition, creation, maintenance and disposition; maintaining the Stockroom user accounts; taking accurate inventory counts and maintaining an inventory database; and preparing a variety of financial reports and spreadsheets, as needed. Must be able to communicate effectively with individuals from a large and diverse group of faculty members, staff, post-doctoral fellows and graduate assistants. Routine office duties include departmental mail distribution, room scheduling, processing maintenance requests and other duties as assigned.
The successful candidate will posess strong customer service and organizational skills; have some prior financial and/or purchasing experience; be familiar with general accounting principles and/or financial functions; be a good listener with excellent interpersonal skills; and have strong computer skills particularly using MS-Excel.
Minimum Qualifications
Bachelor's degree; - OR- Associate's degree and two (2) years’ experienc e; -OR- four (4) years’ experience; degree must be in accounting or rela ted field with related finance or accounting experience. Skill Level: Requires basic knowledge of finance area, including standar d financial principles and terminology, theories and practices; duties a re of minimal to moderate complexity and require some degree of fiscal, problem solving, training, and team coordination responsibilities,
The ideal candidate for this position will have prior college or university decentral financial/purchasing experience; some familiarity with sponsored research grants; and experience using SAP-designed financial/purchasing systems.
