Educational Adviser, UC International

International Services Office

The International Services Office is looking for an Educational Adviser. This position will report directly to the Associate Director and will support the University's mission and commitment to excellence and diversity in our students, faculty, staff and all other activities.

Description: Under general supervision from the Associate Director for UC International Services, provide social and cultural programming that serves and connects our international student and scholar populations with: one another, American students/scholars, and the UC/Cincinnati community.

Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Assist in developing extracurricular, social, cultural, and educational activities and programs relevant to the needs of students and scholars.
  • Coordinate and grow our student peer mentoring group, known as IPALs, to foster successful transition to the American university environment for all international students using available campus services and resources that meet the students' needs.
  • Provide support and guidance to students on academic, cultural and personal matters.
  • Maintain records of student contact time; prepare related reports and manage budgets.
  • Knowledge of processes for crisis and mental health situations. Able to lead staff in supporting students in complex personal situations.
  • Administer computerized-based assessment throughout participants' enrollment.
  • Attend meetings and related functions.
  • Perform related duties based on departmental need.


Minimum Qualifications:

Bachelor's degree with one (1) year experience; -OR- Associate's degree with three (3) years experience; -OR- five (5) years experience. Experience must be in educational advising and/or working with disadvantaged children in an educational setting.

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Evidence of successful, and innovative, work with a diverse range of students and scholars from numerous countries, such as team building, mentoring and leading.
  • Experience building effective working relationships and open communication with students, staff, faculty and University leadership.
  • Ability to communicate effectively in writing and verbally to diverse audiences including administrators, faculty, students, and staff.
  • Flexibility in work schedule; as this position requires frequent night, weekend, and overnight work.
  • Experience living, studying, or working abroad

Salary Range for the position is $32,000 - $42,000 based on education and experience level.
