Associate Director of Budget Management

The Office of Budget Management is currently seeking an Associate Director who will, under general supervision from the Assist Vice President - Budget Management, provide administrative direction and coordinate university budget related projects. In addition, this individual will develop and implement budgetary control procedures and policies, develop and review financial models and forecasting, and manage projects and provide oversite of internal operations.

ResponsibilitiesInclude:
  • Oversee month-end and year-end closing cycle by preparing relevant summaries, financial reports, variance analysis and conduct budget transfer as appropriate.
  • Manages budgets related to university resource allocations and reserves, compiles budget requests, allocates funding and monitors activity.
  • In consultation with the Chief Budget Officer, develop various policies, procedures, and processes, as well as the relevant manuals for the University of Cincinnati's budget operations
  • Partner and collaborate with various department leaders to coordinate University-wide support related to annual budget preparations, multi-year budget plans, database creation and maintenance, budget variance analysis and reporting, and budget adjustments
  • Develop, modify, and implement both new and existing financial management reports and lead and/or coordinate project as needed
  • Provide subject matter expertise, support, guidance and training to area financial and business staff and financial and performance activities and effectively build relationships with employees both internally and externally to the Office of Budget Management
  • May represent the Chief Budget Officer at meetings as needed
  • Supervise and manage an office of budget and finance professionals
  • Other duties as assigned


Minimum Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree with a minimum of seven (7) years of related experience -OR- Associate's degree and at least nine (9) years of related experience -OR- eleven (11) years of related experience; MBA is preferred
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office applications (Excel, Word, PPT) is required
  • Exceptional or advanced Excel skills including comfort with utilization of pivot tables and initiating various conditional formulas including V-lookup function and adding charts
  • Excellent problem solving skills and the ability to take initiative to resolve issues and recommend solutions
  • Demonstrated excellent oral and written communication skills required
  • Demonstrated ability to explain complex and technical financial concepts to non-financial audience, both in small and large group settings
  • High level of attention to detail and accuracy is required along with the ability to meet all deliverables, milestones, and deadlines
  • Strong analytical reasoning and quantitative analysis skills with demonstrated knowledge of budgetary and financial methods including, but not limited to, forecasting, fiscal analysis, research, as well as support and evaluation of data to develop sound conclusions and making appropriate recommendations
  • Demonstrated ability to effectively interpret, organize and present information and ideas in written and/or presentation form is required
  • A minimum of one (1) year of supervision required


Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience working in a large organization, non-profit organization, or higher education institution
  • Experience with SAP
  • Experience with Tableau or similar visualization software is a plus
