Assistant Professor - Represented Annual Adjunct Instructor

Position Description: Assistant Professor - Adjunct Represented Instructors are professionals with the responsibility of providing quality learning experiences for University of Cincinnati students. Instructors are to perform instruction-related duties and responsibilities in a timely manner and in accordance with the mission, policies and procedures of the School of Education. Faculty members report to the School of Education Director, through the ASL Program Coordinator. This is a 9 month, 80% FTE position.

Assistant Professor - Adjunct Represented Instructors will have responsibilities in instruction and service as outlined below:

INSTRUCTION

ASL/Deaf Studies Assistant Professor - Adjunct Represented Instructors will: Teach classes in designated subject areas necessary to improve students' academic performance at the University using active learning methods a variety of instructional strategies designed to assist the learner in meeting the objectives of the course, such as, cooperative learning, experiential learning, critical thinking and reflective practice. Contribute to the creation and design of, as well as follow, the course or program standard design where prescribed. Maintain, update, and utilize Blackboard course materials, including standardized assessments. Collaborate with other faculty to design and create teaching tools for use by all ASL/Deaf Studies instructional staff. Create a positive learning environment for their students, by: Arranging for the acquisition and preparation of all teaching materials; Requesting equipment and other classroom accommodations (including interpreting needs) in a timely manner necessary to meet course objectives. Preparing course lesson plans and all accompanying teaching materials before class. Be prompt and accurate in the recording and reporting of data, including: Teaching evaluations, Evaluating academic progress of students, Compiling reports on student performance. Support students' learning goals by: Focusing on student learning outcomes, Taking into account the needs and abilities of the students, Advising students regarding academic programs, Providing remedial instruction and guidance to students as necessary, Becoming familiar with academic and social support, Making reasonable provisions to accommodate individual differences, Maintaining the academic integrity of the college, Making himself/herself available to assist student in achieving their learning goals, Being aware of and recommending campus services to students as needed.

SERVICE
Represented Annual Adjunct Instructors will: Take leadership roles in organizing Deaf-related events on- and off-campus; Provide insights to the growth, development and direction of the program; Make recommendations for instruction or program changes as well as participate in curricular development and revisions; Participate in staff meetings as needed (2 meetings/month is anticipated); Host office hours (minimum of 4 hours/week). Exhibit the following characteristics in their work, both in and out of the classroom: Motivation and productive work habits; Commitment to excellence as expressed in the College mission, vision and values; A positive, cooperative and supportive attitude toward others; Situation-appropriate professional attire; Punctuality; and Reliability when performing assigned tasks.

Position Qualifications: Bachelor's or Master's degree; ASL teaching experience at the college level (5 or more years preferred); evidence of advanced proficiency in American Sign Language and English; expert knowledge in the linguistics of ASL, Deaf culture and second-language (L2) instruction are required; three years minimum teaching experience at the college/university level.

Ideal Qualifications: Master's Degree; ASLTA Certification; five or more years minimum teaching experience at the college/university level.
