Position title: Chair of Department of Engineering Technologies, tenured at full professor.

 

The Department: The Department of Engineering Technologies has Bachelor of Science in Technology degree programs in Aviation Studies [ATMAE accredited] and Electro-Mechanical Systems; a Bachelor of Science degree in Electronics and Computer Engineering Technology [ECET program is ETAC ABET accredited] and a Bachelor of Science degree in Engineering Technology [ENGT program is ETAC ABET accredited]. The department also offers a baccalaureate degree program in Quality Systems which is offered online.  The department has a Master of Technology Management program with a specialization in Engineering Technology that is face-to-face and online and Quality Systems that is online.  The department is also involved at the doctoral level in an online consortium Ph.D. program with Indiana State University.  The degree of Ph.D. in Technology Management is granted by Indiana State University and the department participates in the Digital Communications, Manufacturing Systems, and Quality Systems specializations within that program.

 

Some of the current initiatives in the department include:

  • An internal grant is expected to replace and upgrade many of the laboratory areas within our larger laboratory that involve both the Electronics and Computer Engineering Technology and Engineering Technology programs.The central theme of this grant is Information Technology Infused Advanced Manufacturing.This grant is under discussion and focuses on the following areas: Mechanical Design; Rapid Prototyping and Additive Manufacturing; Automation, Mechatronics and Robotics; Fluid Mechanics for Robotics; Mechatronics; Advanced Manufacturing; Materials and Manufacturing; Data Highways, Networks and Security (Cybersecurity); Green Energy; and Virtual Reality in Advanced Manufacturing.

  • Quality Systems courses are delivered 100% online.Future growth is expected with a move to the BGSU eCampus format in 2016 and pursuance of ABET accreditation (2018).

  • The Aviation Studies program is pursuing AABI accreditation (2018) and proposing major curriculum and check sheet revisions for Fall of 2016.

     

    General Description and Responsibilities: This is a twelve-month, tenured position in an academic environment undergoing significant change.  Responsibilities associated with this position include working with faculty and others to collaboratively:

  • Lead in the areas of program and curriculum development, student recruitment, budget, personnel, innovative instruction, and facility utilization.

  • Lead in development and conduct of research projects and related agendas connected to scholarship and attracting external funding.

  • Represent and advocate with related industries and organizations, advisory committees, government agencies, potential funding sources, other departments and institutions, and university administration to build collaboration and cooperation.

  • Teach at least one credit-bearing course per semester in a discipline offered in the department.

     

    Applicant Qualifications: The successful applicant will possess demonstrated leadership abilities in technical environments, research, administration, and teaching in one or more of the disciplines within the department.  A doctoral degree in a department related field is required.

     

    Rank and Salary: Salary is competitive and commensurate with peer institution levels for rank and position and in keeping with the candidate’s experience and credentials.
