Part-Time Public Safety Officer

Eligible for voluntary employee contributions into the TIAA 403(b), up to specified federal limits.

Job Summary:
Officers are non-sworn and are responsible for protecting members of the University community through patrol in either a vehicle, on foot or on a bicycle; the position requires officers to work in all types of weather; at different times of the day and night; work alone or with full time officers ; work with persons when the situation is tense or with persons in conflict

Scope:
Support Campus Security as it serves the University Community to maintain a secure environment

Principal Responsibilities
- Lock and unlock prescribed doors of campus buildings in accordance with preset schedules and adjust as necessary.
- Patrol campus parking lots and check campus building at unscheduled intervals to deter crime.
- Learn the locations and operations of campus fire alarm stations and systems.
- Make investigations of criminal acts and complete necessary reports and if needed, report these acts to the proper law enforcement agency.
- Have knowledge of University handbook for students, and the security protocols.
- Work with the office of Student Affairs staff.
- Know the procedure for call-ins.
- Work with the Head residents and Resident assistants when necessary.
- Calling in Grounds personnel during winter months and Maintenance personnel to correct a problem anywhere on campus.
- Be familiar with the university motor vehicle regulations and issue citations as necessary. Issue new and replacement parking permits as necessary.
- Take clear and accurate fingerprints when necessary. Ability to work all shifts, when needed or as scheduled by the Director of Public Safety or his designee.
- Other duties as assigned

Required Skills:
- Ability to communicate effectively both orally or in writing
- Must possess high moral and ethical standards and character.

Minimum Qualifications:
- High School Education or equivalent
- Possess a valid drivers license
- A background investigation will be conducted
- Must be able to work well with students, Faculty, Staff, and visitors.

Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience in Law Enforcement or Private Security
- First Responder Training
- Ability to work in Word, and Excel
