Financial Aid Counselor

Job Summary:
Financial Aid Counselors assist the department with distributing financial aid to students through a variety of related responsibilities. Several of the chief tasks include counseling students, awarding financial aid packages, awarding scholarships, assisting the Director, interacting with other offices, providing back-up support when needed and orienting and training others.

Scope:
Serve as a Financial Aid Counselor and assist students in establishing their financial aid from the initial award packaging to individual counseling sessions with students and their families.

Principal Responsibilities:
Counsel students and their families in person and via phone, mail and email. Award financial aid packages and provide revisions and verifications. Award academic scholarships. Assist the Director of Financial Aid with daily operations. Interact with other campus offices including Admissions and the Controller's Office. Present on financial aid to high schools and at other special events. Assist in maintaining Title IV financial aid compliance. Make recommendations or decisions affecting not only the assigned department, but also operations, services, individuals or activities of other department as well. Interpret and apply a variety of procedures and policies. Gather factual information from within the department and from other departments. Develop and maintain ongoing relationships involving difficult and formal negotiations. Orient, train and lead others performing similar work and report to a higher level on a formal basis. Assist with other duties as assigned.

Required Skills:
Ability to solve problems through the identification and analysis of diverse issues. Advanced knowledge of professional theories and practices within the given field and a working knowledge of related fields. Demonstrate extensive knowledge in several professional disciplines and have the ability to integrate and apply information from different fields.

Minimum Qualifications:
Bachelor's Degree.

Preferred Qualifications:
Master's Degree. Two to three years of similar work experience
