Assistant Professor of Biological Sciences ? Physiology

Job Summary:
The Getty College of Arts and Sciences comprises sixteen departments offering over 50 majors that range from the liberal arts to a rich variety of pre-professional and professional programs. The College has a student-faculty ratio of 12:1; faculty and students collaborate closely in undergraduate research, creative works, and professional activities.

Scope:
Tenure Track Assistant Professor or Associate Professor teaching in the biological sciences. Position includes team instruction of introductory biology and advanced human physiology courses for biology majors and other allied health science students. Excellence in teaching is required and conducting research involving undergraduates is expected.

Principal Responsibilities:
Primary teaching responsibility will be team-teaching the two-semester Medical Physiology sequence for biology majors and, for pharmacy majors, the two-semester Human Physiology sequence. The Medical Physiology courses consist of lecture and an experiential laboratory utilizing computerized physiological data acquisition systems. Additionally, the candidate is encouraged to teach upper level courses in their area of expertise, preferably with a medical molecular biology focus.
The successful candidate will mentor and include students in their personal research program. Academic advising and participation in faculty governance is expected.

Required Skills:
In-depth knowledge of human physiology plus proficiency in histology, human anatomy, and molecular biology techniques is required.

Minimum Qualifications:
Ph.D. in Biology or related field. Rank commensurate with experience and credentials.

Preferred Qualifications:
Preference will be given to candidates with an integrated molecular physiology background, demonstrated excellence in teaching biology at the college level, and research experience with undergraduates. Phi Beta Kappa members are encouraged to apply.
