Assistant or Associate Professor of Dance/Director of Dance

Job Summary:
The successful candidate must be able to teach a variety of dance courses that could include Dance History, Dance Composition, Dance and Culture and teach dance technique in all levels in the areas of Modern and Ballet. Preference will be given to candidates with administrative and leadership skills, and knowledge in dance pedagogy, the ability to provide the vision for improvement of programs and course offerings, the supervision of adjuncts, staff and guest artists, management of budgets, student advising, service and participation in university governance, and recruiting of prospective students. The position requires additional skills in three of these areas: Somatics, Jazz, Tap, Social Dance, Musical Theatre Dance Styles, Hip Hop, and Folk Dance. The Department in Theatre Arts offers majors in International Theatre Production, Musical Theatre and Theatre with minors in Arts Administration, Dance, Design and Production, and Theatre. Collegiality and the ability to interact cooperatively with faculty and staff from multiple disciplines are essential.

Ohio Northern University is seeking a dynamic individual to serve in the full-time tenure track position of Director of Dance, housed within the Department of Theatre Arts. The Dance Program features a "free standing" minor with over 25 students from all majors across the university and is strongly integrated with the Musical Theatre Major. The Dance Program has a vibrant guest artist program and produces two dance concerts per year and experience in choreography and rehearsal direction is required.

Principal Responsibilities
Teaching courses in the area of dance and developing curriculum for the Dance Minor, directing the dance program, mentoring students and adjunct instructors, directing 2 dance concerts per year or choreographing for departmental musical theatre productions.

Required Skills:
Excellence in teaching and a strong foundation in dance pedagogy, the ability to conduct research, excellent interpersonal skills and ability to mentor students both inside and outside of the classroom.

Minimum Qualifications:
MFA in Dance or equivalent professional experience.

Preferred Qualifications:
Ph.D.

The Getty College of Arts and Sciences comprises seventeen departments offering over 50 majors that range from the liberal arts to a rich variety of pre-professional and professional programs.
