Required Qualifications: Master's Degree in Social Work or a Counseling related field. Experience working with adolescents and young adults. Basic knowledge of medical terminology. Proficient computer skills and excellent communication skills, written and verbal.

Preferred Qualifications: Licensed Clinical Social Worker. Two or more years of experience working with adolescent and young adult populations. Bilingual (Spanish-English).

Brief Description of Duties: The Department of Pediatrics wishes to hire a Counselor who will work independently and be responsible for the overall implementation and provision of an evidence based intervention curriculum within a multi-site adolescent health clinic. He/she will work with a multi-disciplinary team to receive referrals and provide feedback on patient progress at routine team meetings. In addition, the incumbent will be responsible for assisting patients in obtaining medical insurance, accurate chart documentation of intervention and follow-up including the reporting of pertinent data to the division's data coordinator.

  • Provide individual counseling to adolescents and young adults incorporating an evidence based intervention focusing on pregnancy prevention.
  • Provide appropriate referrals for clients; advocate for and facilitate access to community based organizations for the provision of concrete and supportive service needs.
  • Facilitate and file medical insurance applications for those in need.
  • Prepare and maintain case reports and charting for patient records.
  • Attend Department of Health and other meetings/training as required by sponsor.
  • Outreach and network with local community based organizations.
  • Perform additional services at the request of the Division Chief.

Special Notes: This is a full-time position. The Research Foundation of SUNY is a private educational corporation. Employment is subject to the Research Foundation policies and procedures, sponsor guidelines and the availability of funding. FLSA exempt position, not eligible for the overtime provisions of the FLSA. Internal and external search to occur simultaneously. Some travel may be required. Some nights and weekends may be required.
