Applicants for Resident Assistant MUST be a Skidmore student. Resident Assistants (RA's) will live in the residence hall with 40 high school age students of the Summer Young Writers Institute. The position is for 13 days, beginning Sunday, June 24th through Friday, July 6th. RA's will be on duty late afternoons (beginning approximately 5:00pm), through the overnight hours, and into the mornings. RA's are responsible for ensuring that students arrive to their morning class on time every day. RA's are on duty all day and night on the weekends. They will chaperone a field trip to The Great Escape on Sunday, July 1st, and to the downtown fireworks on July 4th. They will remain ON-CALL when not on duty, and be available for occasional staff meetings in the mornings or early afternoons. RA's will be responsible for assisting with the program's check-in of students as they arrive on campus and help them get settled in the dorm. They will also assist with their departure from the dorm at the end of the program. They will maintain close and regular contact with students, ensuring their safety, and enforce the rules and regulations of the Residential & Academic Life Agreement for Minors (including curfews). RA's must have strong communication skills and leadership qualities. They must be able to consistently display good judgment and be positive and supportive mentors for the students.
Minimum Qualifications
Mature Skidmore College student. The successful applicant will be a rising sophomore, junior or senior currently enrolled at Skidmore. Seniors graduating in May are also welcome to apply. We seek candidates with a demonstrated interest in working with high school age students.
