Network Technician - IT

Job Summary
The Network Technician, under the supervision of the Network Administrator, assists in the coordination of the day-to-day operations of the network and security systems. The Network Technician also manages campus-wide projects, determining project parameters, pulling in all necessary personnel and resources, and oversees consultants, vendors, and co-workers to successfully accomplish the tasks at hand. This position is responsible for the coordination, implementation and maintenance of Skidmore network facilities and has a role in creating, updating and maintaining all Skidmore projects relevant to maintenance and support of the Skidmore network. The position has regular contact with faculty regarding the network facilities used by faculty and students.

This position is a unique, and necessary, combination of roles, requiring an individual who can function as Network Manager, Network Analyst, Technology Researcher and backup for the Network Administrator. This position also provides design, monitoring and analysis services for the Skidmore systems network, and ensures the network is maintained, monitored and enhanced as needed. To achieve this goal, the incumbent must continuously upgrade his/her education, skills and knowledge to use diverse monitoring and analysis software and hardware devices. Extensive knowledge of local area network (LAN) and wide area network (WAN) technologies is desirable. The ability to maintain and generate reports from management software packages is also part of this position. Off-hours work and monitoring the system network from off-campus locations is required.

Minimum Qualifications
Associate's Degree required.

Preferred Qualifications
Bachelor's degree with related experience/training in a multi-protocol client/server environment is desirable. Industry training in LAN and WAN technologies, network administration, and network design are desirable.
