Job Summary:

The Office of the Dean of the Faculty at Skidmore College invites applications for a part-time (20 hrs./wk), 12 month Laboratory Animal Caretaker. We are particularly interested in candidates from under-represented backgrounds that will add to the diversity and excellence of our academic community. The Animal Caretaker is a critical participant in the maintenance and management plan for the College's census of laboratory animals used both in research and instruction. The successful candidate will provide primary support for the aviaries, and aquaria in the Biology Department and secondary animal care support to rodent labs located in the Biology and Psychology Departments (i.e., secondary support constitutes cross coverage for the feeding and monitoring of animals and for routine maintenance of facilities during weekends, alternate holidays, and periods when other animal care personnel are on vacation or sick leave).

Minimum Qualifications:

High school diploma; demonstrated high level of reliability and responsibility and experience with laboratory animal research and technical support are required.

Preferred Qualifications:

Bachelor's degree or higher in biology or related field; 2-3 years of experience with laboratory animal research and technical animal care facility support and American Association of Laboratory Animal Science (AALAS) certification as an Assistant Laboratory Animal Technician or higher.
