Research Foundation Support Position

Salary: $17,490 - $19,080 @ 53% FTE

Required Qualifications: High School Diploma/GED. Two years of progressively responsible full time administrative experience including one year experience working with medical records.

Preferred Qualifications: Associate's Degree. One year of experience in physician billing, specifically entering charges (CPT codes) and diagnoses (ICD-9 codes). One year experience working in a physician practice. Experience with PatientKeeper physician billing systems.

Brief Description of Duties: The Coding Assistant will support billing for Emergency Medicine Physicians services provided at Peconic Bay Medical Center in Riverhead. The selected candidate will:

  • Review ED medical records in scanning database to ensure all information complete for outside coding company.
  • Enter patient information - CPT codes, ICD-9 diagnosis codes, and other required information into patient billing system. Annual patient volume is approximately 36,000.
  • Pull charts from Medical Records for physician addenda.
  • Prepare medical records copies needed for billing (workers compensation, no fault) and compliance inquiries.
  • Scan missing charts and addenda into Scan-ER system.
  • Reconcile outside coding with ED daily patient list to ensure all patients are billed.

Special Notes: This is a part-time position, 20 hours per week, days and hours vary. The Research Foundation of SUNY is a private educational corporation. Employment is subject to the Research Foundation policies and procedures, sponsor guidelines and the availability of funding. Internal and external search to occur simultaneously. FLSA Nonexempt position, eligible for the overtime provisions of the FLSA. *This position is located in Riverhead, NY.

The selected candidate must successfully clear a background investigation.
