Position Summary and Responsibilities
- Cuts new or duplicate keys (e.g. building and vehicle keys, file cabinets, desks, cabinets, intrusion alarms, lost or stolen locks/keys, etc.
- Fabricates unique locks and locking devices for the purpose of meeting specialty needs and/or replacing unavailable parts.
- Informs personnel regarding procedures and status of work orders.
- Install manual locking systems; Must be familiar with electronic locking systems and be ready to assist carpenters with installation of electronic systems if needed.
- Monitors vehicle, tools and equipment for the purpose of ensuring safe operating conditions; report issues to be addressed.
- Maintains knowledge of industry trends in the field, and ensures skills and abilities to perform job duties are current.
- Re-keys locks and changes combinations.
- Repairs a variety of items, systems and/or components (e.g. locks, worn tumblers, shortens tumblers, springs, changes combinations, exist hardware, etc.
- Requests equipment and supplies for the purpose of maintaining inventory and ensuring availability of items required to complete the necessary installation and/or repair.
- Updates status of work orders using work management software.
- Performs other related duties as assigned.
Qualifications
Five years of demonstrated experience as a locksmith. Experience with Master Key Systems required. Registered Locksmith preferred. Must have basic computer skills to navigate required business systems (e.g. TMA Work Management, Key/Lock management systems, Workday, etc.) Must possess and maintain a valid New York Driver's License. Ability to communicate effectively in English, including understanding, speaking, reading and writing. Willingness to work overtime as available. Overtime is assigned according to seniority guidelines.
