Position Summary and Responsibilities Vassar College has 2 open positions for Assistant Chef. These positions are scheduled to work during 40 hours per week the academic year (33 weeks/year) only.

Prepare menu items assigned by Head Chef or supervisor, including but not limited to the following: roasting, broiling, frying, sauteing, grilling, soup production, sauces, vegetables, casseroles, stews and souffles. Oversee kitchen staff in meal production.

Wed & Thurs OFF
Fri 1:00 p.m. - 9:30 p.m.
Sat 8:00 a.m. - 4:30 p.m.
Sun 8:00 a.m. - 4:30 p.m.

Mon 12:30 p.m. - 9:00 p.m.
Tue 6:00 a.m. - 2:30 p.m.
Wed 6:00 a.m. - 2:30 p.m.
Thurs 1:00 p.m. - 9:30 p.m.
Fri 7:30 a.m. - 4:00 p.m.
Sat & Sun OFF

Qualifications
Sound knowledge of proper food handling, sanitation and cooking skills in all areas; knowledge of proper operation of commercial food service equipment. Ability to evaluate a recipe and recalculate as volume changes. Ability to lift heavy objects. Ability to communicate effectively in English, including understanding, speaking, reading and writing. Attendance and performance will be considered. Willingness to work overtime as available. Overtime is assigned according to seniority guidelines.
