Admissions Advisor

The State University of New York College at Plattsburgh invites applications for a New York City based Admissions Advisor.  As part of a dynamic Admissions team, this position is responsible for recruitment, conversion, and yield tactics to help enroll well-qualified New York City freshman and transfer students each semester.  This full-time position will have a 12-month obligation annually and has an anticipated start date of mid-May 2016.

Responsibilities include:

General Duties:

Serve as the regional manager for, and be based directly out of, the NYC region of New York. Conduct an annual assessment of application trends, write a plan for recruitment, manage a regional budget, and make all decisions pertaining to travel and recruitment initiatives;

Serve as the primary traveler for NYC.  Travel to external sites for student recruitment purposes during the fall (approx. 8 weeks), winter (approx. 2 weeks), and spring (approx. 5 weeks);

Manage a regional sort of the freshman applicant pool. This includes making requests for materials, rendering final decisions, validating conditional acceptances, and completing final transcript review;

Assist with application completion and deposit-yield activities;

Deliver oral presentations about the college to small and large groups;

Meet individually with students/families at the SUNY Welcome Center, community-based organizations (CBOs), and other public, external sites in NYC;

Daily communication with students, parents, and school counselors via phone, email, social media, and one-on-one meetings;

Assist with planning and executing on and off-campus programs;

Assist the coordinators of the Ambassador Program by drafting communication for prospective students; communicating with leaders; assisting with scheduling, training and orientation of leaders; and conducting data entry and analysis;

Research information, prepare presentations, and write reports as necessary;

Serve on college committees as elected/appointed.

Specific Duties:

Serve as the primary liaison for all NYC community-based organization (CBO) partnerships.  Maintain and forge new relationships with CBO partners; coordinate fall and spring CBO bus trips; act as the main point-of-contact for CBO counselors; attend monthly CBO meetings; and develop/facilitate recruitment and yield activities that strengthen partnership relationships;

Coordinate three NYC accepted student bus trips. Duties include revising recruitment and planning materials; managing the registration and communication processes; recruiting/training student overnight hosts; chaperoning the bus to and from NYC; planning a full itinerary of events; and distributing surveys and conducting analysis on post-trip yield rates and success;

Form working relationships with currently enrolled NYC students through event participation and/or club advisement and maintain a database of NYC students willing to assist with admissions events;

Develop a rapport with, and a presence at, the SUNY Welcome Center.  Schedule monthly informational meetings, identify recruitment opportunities, and gain information on best practices. Develop and host fall and/or spring recruitment and yield events at the SUNY Welcome Center that align with the needs of NYC students and families;

Become an active member in both the College Access Consortium of New York (CACNY) and the National Association for College Admission Counseling (NACAC).  Conduct research, attend monthly meetings and identify opportunities to expand Plattsburgh’s reach and involvement with key influencers;

Serve as the admissions EOP liaison.  Develop a firm understanding of Plattsburgh’s EOP process and form strong working relationships with the Financial Aid and EOP offices.  Regularly interface with students, families, and counselors of EOP applicants. Conduct second academic review on EOP applicants and support the assistant director in managing the overall EOP process.

Required Qualifications: One year of professional admissions or related experience is required.  A bachelor's degree and valid driver's license are also required.  Must possess the ability and willingness to live and travel in New York City and periodically travel to Plattsburgh, as well as perform evening and weekend work. Strong analytical, organizational, and communication skills (written, oral, and electronic) are a must.  Candidates must possess a strong work ethic and be detail-oriented.

Preferred Qualifications: Master's degree; More than one year of professional experience working in a college admissions or related office; Previous experience with New York City students, families, and/or community-based organizations; Familiarity with Banner and ImageNow software; Knowledge of SUNY Plattsburgh and surrounding region.

Salary: $44,530 and location stipend of $3,026/year, plus excellent benefits.
