Student Services Coordinator, Law School


Title: Student Services Coordinator

Department: Law School

Campus: Queens

Summary

To provide support for the academic needs of the student body and provide support to the office and functions of the Assistant Dean for Students.

Student Advisement:
  • Advise students generally on course requirements including course selection and academic planning.
  • Process requests for student leaves of absence, withdrawal and transfer of divisions and maintain data regarding said students (final approval over such requests will be made by the Assistant Dean for Students).
  • Monitor students on LOA for reinstatement.
  • Oversee the amendment process of law school applications (final approval will be made by the Vice-Dean Emeritus or the Assistant Dean for Students).
  • Monitor students with academic difficulty, personal or attendance issues and advise students in conjunction with the Assistant Dean for Students.
  • Coordinate with the Registrar's office to communicate with 1L and graduating students regarding registration requirements.
  • Review transcripts and advise incoming transfer students (in conjunction with the Assistant Dean for Students).
  • Handle communication for transfer students.
  • Plan transfer student orientation events (in conjunction with the Assistant Dean for Students).

Accommodations:
  • Process accommodations received from ODS and work with the registrar to ensure accommodations are met.
  • Responsible for ensuring accommodations are met according to the ODS instructions.
  • Meet with and advise students with accommodations.
  • Maintain and amend the Online Student Center.
  • Responsible for the dissemination of information to the student body regarding general student-related messages and information.
  • Manage excel spreadsheets for general student information, graduation requirements, accommodations, external scholarships and various other data.

Financial Aid/Scholarship:
  • Point person for financial aid issues for law school students and act as liaison with the University Financial Services Department.
  • Assist and advise law students with financial aid and scholarship issues.
  • Maintain and upload external scholarship opportunities to the Online Student Center.

Graduation Responsibilities:
  • Coordinate with the Registrar to process graduation requirements data to graduating students.
  • Advise students whether they are on track for timely graduation, calculate degree conferral requirements, report any issues to the Assistant Dean for Students.
  • Responsible for the commencement script and the identification of graduation awards.
  • Responsible for communications with the Office of the Provost regarding pending graduates.
  • Responsible for disseminating the graduation application to prospective graduates and to the collection of data necessary for the conferral of degrees.

Special Events/Communications:
  • Act as liaison with Student Leaders.
  • Manage and organize special events for student organizations.
  • Assisting with the recruitment and orientation of transfer and first year students.
  • Disseminate Bar Exam information.
  • Coordinate student wellness sessions.
  • Manage the processing of applications for study abroad requests.


Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree required.
  • Preferred 2-3 years of prior experience in a higher ed institution, preferable with student services.
  • Strong computer knowledge including Outlook, Microsoft Word, Excel and Banner A plus, Access.
  • Excellent communication skills.
  • Ability to interact with a variety of people.
  • Ability to work with tight deadlines while coordinating multiple projects.
