Science Educator - Part-Time - Summer

St. John's University Upward Bound Program

Science Educator

Position: Part-time (summer)

Primary Function: Under the direction of the Program Director and Coordinator, candidate will provide instruction to students in Science in the content areas of Chemistry and/or AP Biology and the exploration of related college majors and careers during the Upward Bound Summer Academy.

Additional Information: The Upward Bound Summer Academy will run from Tuesday, July 10 th - Thursday, August 16 th . Educators will provide instruction for a minimum of two hours a day, two days per week and be provided an hour a week for instructional prep. Additional hours are available through the supervision of field trips and other program activities related to the instructional content area.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree Required, Master's Degree Preferred
  • State Certification or college teaching experience;
  • Five years teaching experience at the secondary or collegiate level;
  • Knowledge of Common Core and Next Generation Learning Standards;
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills;
  • Ability to inspire and motivate youth;
  • Deep rooted passion in serving students and helping them achieve their goals.
  • Experience working with adolescents and effective classroom management skills


Job Responsibilities

  • Facilitate instructional content area objectives in Chemistry and/or AP Biology to program participants.
  • Collaborate with Program Director and Coordinator to design and implement summer course curriculum and activities.
