Position Description:

This is a full-time position for a PGY-2 Pharmacy Resident in the area of Academia & Community Health, which is a 12-month (July 1, 2017 - June 30, 2018) grant-funded position. This position will report to the Program Director.



Program Description:

SAMHSA has awarded St. John's University a grant to develop and implement training programs to teach students in health professions the skills necessary to provide evidence-based screening and brief intervention and refer patients (SBIRT) who are at risk for a substance use disorder (SUD) to appropriate treatment. Through this proposed project, St. John's seeks to increase the adoption and practice of SBIRT throughout the health care delivery system with the ultimate goal of helping clients avoid substance use disorders.



Position Responsibilities (include, but not limited to) :
  • Assist in the incorporation, provision and assessment of SBIRT concepts and training into didactic, experiential and community outreach programs.
  • Collaborate with faculty/preceptors, administrators, healthcare partners, and other key stakeholders in student education and training activities within various practice settings.
  • Assist in student precepting, mentoring and other activities aimed to enhance student growth and the application of their knowledge and skills.
  • Apply leadership skills in teaching, practice and community advocacy.
  • Provide didactic and experiential education to students pursuing a health professions' degree.
  • Provide health education to members of various community organizations.
  • Serve as a member of assigned departmental and college committees.
  • Successfully complete required training programs (e.g. College of Pharmacy and Health Sciences' Teaching and Learning Certificate Program) and rotation responsibilities.
  • Complete an approved research project to present at a professional meeting.
  • Attend professional meeting(s) as per Program Director.


Qualifications / Requirements:
  • Pharm.D. degree and PGY-1 Pharmacy Residency completion
  • Strong interest/experience in higher education/training and public health
  • Strong leadership, time-management and multi-tasking skills
  • Strong oral and written communication skills
  • Licensure or eligibility for licensure in NY (RPh)
  • Regular local/regional travel for fulfillment of position responsibilities
  • Proficiency in computer use (including Microsoft Office applications)
