Job Description

Assist Documents Librarian with overall Documents Collection and oversees the department in the absence of the Documents Librarian.

Responsibilities:
  • Maintain the physical condition of the collection, which includes shelving, weeding, and the processing of documents.
  • Helps to coordinate a vast weeding project of Federal Documents, this includes, lists, monitoring databases and discard of materials according to the Office of the Superintendent of Documents and the Government Printing Office.
  • Help faculty, staff, administrators and library patrons in locating Government, United Nations, and New York State documents within the library. This may also include microfiche as well as paper documents.
  • Process shipments of U.S., U.N., and N.Y. State documents including microfiche.
  • Enter bibliographic information into Sierra, the libraries integrated automation system.
  • Maintain the Congressional Record and Federal Register Collections, monitoring when fiche arrives and collections are complete and then discarding the paper equivalent.
  • Shelve Government material under SuDoc, New York State, and Library of Congress classification number within the library and archives.
  • Process separates shipments against packing lists; stamp and route material to correct locations with the library.
  • Assist Documents Librarian in training of student workers in order to maintain a neat and easily accessible collection.
  • Work independently to resolve problems arising from discrepancies in documents in order to create accurate records that reflect the libraries current Documents Collection.
  • Answer basic Documents questions this may include answering telephone and in-person inquiries about holdings and requests for general information.
  • Order supplies needed for Documents Department.
  • Assist Documents Librarian with Library tours, displays, and undergraduate/graduate class instruction packets and presentations.
  • Organize and monitor Bill Jackets for inclusion in the Law Libraries Collection.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.


Qualifications:
  • High School Diploma
  • Reliable and punctual

  • Ability to work independently
  • Some heavy lifting required
  • Legible handwriting
