Gallery Director

Gallery Director

Responsibilities:

  • Planning, directing, and promoting exhibitions and activities at the Dr. M.T. Geoffrey Yeh Art Gallery
  • Overseeing installations in the Gallery and several other smaller exhibition spaces on campus and off campus
  • Provide educational service and assistance to the Department of Art and Design
  • Engage with the campus and local community through exhibitions, events, and partnerships.
  • Maintaining Gallery website
  • Social media outreach efforts
  • Fiscal management of daily operations and budget planning
  • Grant writing
  • Overseeing all aspects of printed and digital promotional materials
  • Training and supervision of work-study students and graduate


Skills:

  • A willingness to work collaboratively to support the goals and mission of the gallery. the Department of Art and Design, the college, and the university.
  • Ability to work with faculty, outside and community partners to develop relevant exhibitions targeting a broad audience.
  • Demonstrated excellence in administrative and organizational skills.
  • Proven knowledge and command of historical and contemporary art.
  • A demonstrated understanding of multi-disciplinary arts; overseeing educational programming; event coordination within a school, university or community engagement context.
  • Experience with social media outreach, maintaining website
  • Experience with proper care and handling of artworks is also desirable.
  • Exhibition preparation, climbing ladders, lifting, use of hand tools, changing lighting fixtures, handling and displaying artwork, and facilitating installation.


Experience/ Qualifications:

  • Master's degree in Fine Arts (MFA or MA) or PhD in arts administration/curatorial/museum studies/art
  • Three years of experience in a gallery, or exhibition setting.
  • Experience and proven ability In writing
