St. John's University announces an opening for the position of Director of Development, School of Education. The Director is responsible for developing a fundraising strategy for the school working in collaboration with the academic dean. Reporting to the Associate Vice President for Advancement, with dotted line reporting to the assigned school or college dean, the Director will cultivate and solicit major gift donors (including individuals, corporations, corporate foundations, and foundations), identify new prospects, and effectively manage relationships with key internal and external constituencies including the President and members of the President's Advisory Council, members of the Board of Trustees and Board of Governors, school advisory board members, faculty, administrators, staff, students, volunteers and alumni to ensure that school or college fundraising goals are aligned with University-wide fundraising goals and strategic priorities.

Duties and Responsibilities: In collaboration with the School Dean, the Director will develop fundraising strategies to cultivate and solicit assigned portfolio of donors and prospects, subsequently executing an individualized plan for each donor. The Director will create strong relationships with relevant academic units and gain a comprehensive understanding of their programs and opportunities for major gifts. The Director will manage the major gifts fundraising process with school individual donors and communicate regularly with the Associate Vice President for Advancement and the Dean on a timely basis to identify opportunities and challenges. Other duties may be assigned as appropriate.
Qualifications: A Bachelor's degree is required; an advanced degree preferred. A minimum of 5 to 7 plus years fundraising experience, preferably in higher education, or comparable non-profit marketing experience with responsibilities for building relationships with individuals, corporations, foundations and other organizations. Knowledge of solicitation strategies, development, fundraising, philanthropy and/or nonprofit marketing is essential. A proven track record of accomplishment in securing substantial gifts is important. The candidate must possess a high level of motivation, initiative, flexibility and creativity with the ability to focus and prioritize while managing multiple tasks simultaneously to meet deadlines. He or she must also have excellent interpersonal, verbal and written communication skills and be willing to travel regularly on behalf of the University. The preferred candidates will possess a genuine commitment to the mission of St. John's as a Catholic and Vincentian university.
