Development Officer for Recent Graduates, Students and Social Media

Development Officer, School of Law

Supervisor: Brian Woods, Associate Dean for Development, Alumni Relations & Strategy

Summary: The Development Officer creates and leads a comprehensive annual fundraising effort for Recent Graduates, Students and spends part of his/her time managing social media for the Office of Development & Alumni Relations

Responsibilities:

  • Enlist recent graduates to who are active members of professional (Trial Ad, In-House Counsel, Entertainment, Arts and IP, and ethnic affinity groups (LALSA, BLSA etc.) to serve as alumni ambassadors;
  • Solicit ambassadors for their annual fund gift at the $1,000 and up
  • Increase online giving by 30% over 3 years using GiveCampus.org and other social media tools;
  • Serve as the primary liaison to the Public Interest Center and manage alumni outreach for the annual Public Interest Auction with raises $100,000 plus annually;
  • Serve as the primary liaison to the Office of Admissions and coordinate young alumni to help recruit students (admitted student days, one-off emails and phone calls).
  • Work with alumni ambassadors to mentor students, assist with mock interviews, and promote the hiring of St. John's law students.
  • Target a diverse group of alumni to increase attendance at events and involvement with the law school.
  • Serve as the primary point person for student groups, who rely on the Development Office to secure speakers for student events.


Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelors degree required; J.D. preferred
  • One to three years of experience in fundraising or a related field
  • Excellent communication skills (written and verbal)
  • Fluent in all facets of social media (with a primary focus on LinkedIn, Twitter, Facebook and Instagram)
  • Demonstrated knowledge of all facets of social media
  • Comfortable liaising with a variety of constituencies
  • Comfortable with technology; proficiency in Excel required
  • Discretion and tact in handling confidential information
  • Comfortable with change
  • Experience planning events is preferred
  • Comfortable asking people for money
  • Travel in and around the metro-NYC area
