The Division of Criminal Justice, Legal Studies and Homeland Security in the College of Professional Studies at St. John's University is seeking applicants for a full-time tenure track position as Assistant Professor of Homeland Security, commencing Fall, 2019.

The Program

The Division of Criminal Justice, Legal Studies and Homeland Security has a dynamic practitioner/academic faculty and offers the following undergraduate programs: an American Bar Association approved paralegal program, Criminal Justice, and Homeland Security. The Division also offers two graduate programs, a Master of Professional Studies (MPS) in Homeland Security and Criminal Justice Leadership and a Doctor of Professional Studies (DPS) in Homeland Security. Faculty focus on key areas of skill development that include critical thinking, oral and written expression, team membership, leadership, and employment readiness. Responsibilities

This is a teaching-intensive position (9-12 credit hours per semester) with opportunities for research reductions. We place primary emphasis on the candidate's commitment to teaching and student engagement, together with ongoing research productivity. Candidates are expected to present a detailed plan for research. Division faculty are expected to participate in academic advisement, student mentoring, academic assessment, and other activities as required by the Chair and/or Dean.

Qualifications

Candidates must have a Ph.D. in homeland security, criminal justice, international relations or a closely related field with relevance to homeland security. The ideal candidate will also have professional practitioner experience in criminal justice or homeland security. Preference will be given to candidates who can support the growth of undergraduate and graduate programs, especially the MPS and DPS in Homeland Security program. Candidates with evidence of teaching excellence, professional and scholarly activity, research, student engagement, and a strong commitment to service are preferred.

Candidates should be familiar with technology-supported learning pedagogy and be able and willing to integrate technology into teaching in face-to-face, online, and hybrid modes of course delivery.
