Duties and Responsibilities

Write and edit short stories and features for all outlets produced in the Office of College Relations and Communications, including This Is Ithaca (a publication for prospective students), ICView (the alumni magazine), media relations, and the IC website.
Conduct interviews and gather content.
Evaluate, edit, and fact check submissions from other student contributors.
Assist with fact checking, proofreading, and other editorial tasks.
Meet regularly with professional staff to discuss story progress and hone writing and editing skills.
Learn and follow IC's style guide, which is a combination of Chicago Manual of Style and house style.
Bring story ideas that fit the college's messaging goals and branding standards to professional editing staff for possible development.
Other duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications

Excellent writing and editing skills; the ability to prioritize projects, handle multiple tasks, and meet deadlines; excellent attention to detail; strong organizational, interpersonal, and verbal communication; knowledge of various word processing applications a must. A background in journalism, writing, or English is preferred. Web-writing/blogging experience is a plus.

A writing and editing test will be given to finalists.
