Position/Job Summary

Provide customer services within the Campus Store and process books and merchandise sales to include operating the point-of-sale-computerized register, assisting customers in locating merchandise, help receive merchandise into the store, maintain stockrooms in an orderly manner, and provide assistance within other areas of the Campus Store.

Position/Job Responsibilities

1. Process sales transactions including cash, check, ID Express, and charge cards; receive monies and disburse change.

2. Assist customers in locating merchandise; offer suggestions for alternative or additional merchandise. Notify Manager of General Merchandise Operations of out of stocks on items.

3. Assist students and faculty in utilizing the Campus Store services to include but not limited to fax, dry cleaning, shipping, and textbook rentals.

4. Retrieve merchandise from the stockroom and stock sales floor, maintain window and counter displays, making sure they are changed regularly. Maintain the stockroom in an orderly fashion, so it is easy for employees to stock merchandise on the sales floor.

5. Conduct visual surveillance of retail sales area and alert appropriate personnel of suspected shoplifting activities.

6. Oversee receiving and verifying shipments; notify supervisor or other designated personnel of merchandise needing to be reordered. Identify any defective merchandise so it can be removed from the shipment and credit can be obtained.

7. Maintain cash register supplies; request change as needed to ensure adequate currency in the drawer.

8. Provide customers with information regarding Campus Store policies and procedures.

9. Assist with annual Campus Store and stockroom inventory processes. Handle any additional inventories that may need to be done from time to time.

10. Assist in opening and closing the Campus Store to include putting out the cash drawers in the morning and removing all currency, slips, and paperwork from the drawers at the close of business. Run the End of Day Report for all registers that are used. Checking security of windows and doors.

11. Work closely with the Manager of General Merchandise Operations in monitoring and assigning of day-to-day duties and responsibilities to staff and student assistants.

12. Work with the Shipping/Receiving Clerk regarding the flow of merchandise from the receiving area to the sales floor.

13. Provide training for all new employees, temporary staff and student assistants on operating the cash register(s) and sales floor duties and responsibilities.

14. Assist with the processing of mail orders and reservations received through the website to include pulling, processing, and packaging of orders. Contact customers directly regarding issues concerning their mail orders or reservations. Serve as backup for the Manager of General Merchandise in completing the process in his/her absence.

Position/Job Qualifications

High School diploma and one-year of retail cashiering experience with a strong attention to detail; good interpersonal, written and verbal communication skills, the ability to work well with the public with an emphasis on customer service; ability to work well under pressure and handle multiple tasks simultaneously; basic skills and working knowledge of computer operating systems and their usage including a retail point-of-sale operating system and demonstrated ability to operate a computerized register/terminal; flexibility to work evenings and weekends are required.
