Position/Job Summary
Ithaca College's Department of Art invites applications for a full-time, three-year, non-tenure-eligible Assistant Professor of Sculpture and New Media with a possibility of reappointment, to begin August 16, 2018.
The position is a 3/3 teaching position and includes teaching 3-D Design, all levels of sculpture including mentoring senior thesis students, and other courses as appropriate for the candidate's expertise and the department's needs. In addition, it is expected that the successful candidate will have continued professional activity, help maintain studio facilities and perform service to the Art Department.
Position/Job Qualifications
MFA in Sculpture, New Media or related field. Three years of full-time college-level teaching experience preferred, with a minimum of one year full-time teaching beyond TA required. Merging of traditional and contemporary approaches desired. Knowledge of sculpture processes combined with new media, time-based media, such as video and sound, to create both projects and installations is required. Preference given to candidates who will design and teach special topics courses like digital fabrication and/or other innovative courses that will highlight and add to our campus' creative programming. Knowledge of contemporary issues in art as evidenced through personal, student work and teaching philosophy also required. Successful candidates will demonstrate an ability to teach in ways that acknowledge and value the varied learning styles and interests of a culturally diverse student population, reflecting a commitment to encouraging the success of all students.
