ASSISTANT DIRECTOR, Internship Program
The Office of Career Counseling at Sarah Lawrence College (Westchester County, NY) seeks candidates for the position of Assistant Director to grow and expand the current internship program for students.
Reporting to the Director of Career Counseling, the Assistant Director will have the primary responsibility of developing and overseeing a robust, broad-based outreach effort aimed at alumni and parents, as well as corporate and nonprofit partners to secure and then market local and national internships to our student body. The individual will also partner with colleagues from Advancement and Alumni Relations, as well as faculty to strategically identify and develop a target list of employers for internships and networking opportunities that meet the career interests of our students.
RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE:
- Liaison between The Office of Career Services and the Offices of Advancement and Alumni Relations
- Perform extensive external outreach to organizations (locally, regionally, nationally and internationally), enrich existing relationships and develop new partnerships for potential internship, job and networking opportunities.
- Build relationships with faculty to promote internships to the student body and identify suitable candidates
- Educate students about the benefits of interning and provide related counseling and workshops to help prepare students for their internship search
- Ensure the quality of the internship experience for both employer and students.
- Coordinate and facilitate advanced career development workshops, programs, networking panels/events, internship and career fairs, etc.
- Represent the office in a variety of College, community, and other networking events.
- Supervise Career and Internship Coordinator and related internship database, travel/stipend funds, policies and procedures.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Master’s degree in career counseling, higher education or related field required.
- A minimum of four years of experience in career services, preferably in an employer relations role.
- Energy and enthusiasm for partnership/business development.
- Proven planning, organizational, programming and presentation abilities.
- Outstanding writing skills, excellent interpersonal skills, and the ability to work effectively with students, faculty, staff and employers.
- Ability to travel and work evenings and weekends as needed.
- Experience with databases such as Symplicity and/or Raiser's Edge or a similar database preferred.
