Job Description: The Academic Advisor in the College of Agriculture, Biotechnology and Natural Resources (CABNR) will be responsible for providing academic advising to prospective, new, transfer, and continuing students on general academic and specific curricular requirements in individual and group advising settings.  The individual will serve as a resource for all new and current students to assure that they are making timely progress toward graduation. He/She will work closely with the students and their designated faculty advisors on academic progress and curricular issues. The academic advisor will take the lead on certain activities and assist the CABNR Coordinator of Student Affairs and Outreach with retention, advising, and recruitment activities. Because all CABNR programs are in STEM (Science Technology, Engineering and Math) disciplines, the academic advisor should have a basic understanding of the natural sciences and the particular academic challenges facing STEM students.

The University of Nevada, Reno, the land-grant University and major research institution in the state, has a student body of approximately 19,000. The University is situated in Reno, a metropolitan area of 350,000, on the eastern slope of the Sierra Nevada mountain range. The city is conveniently located 38 miles from Lake Tahoe, a world-class skiing area with limitless summer and winter recreational opportunities. Sacramento and San Francisco are, respectively, two and four hour drives away.

Required Qualifications: Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited institution and two years, or a Master’s Degree from an accredited institution and one year, of related academic advising, teaching, student services or related fields.

Preferred Qualifications: Teaching, advising and/or recruiting experience in natural science disciplines.

Newly hired faculty must have their official transcript of their highest degree received sent directly to the University of Nevada, Reno, Human Resources within 30 calendar days from the effective date of employment.
