Position Summary:

Monmouth University is seeking applications for a temporary Groundskeeper in the Facilities Management department.

The candidate would be expected to: construct, maintain, install and replace plant materials and landscaping components in all University-owned properties on a daily basis using vehicles, lifts, ladders, scaffolding, forklifts, backhoes, tractors, pesticide sprayers, line stripers, measuring devices, power and hand tools.

Required Degree, License or Certifications:
Valid Automobile Driver's License in your state of principal residence

Required Skills or Software:
Excellent interpersonal, organizational and communication skills

Required Years of Experience: 5

Other Requirements:

Five years of grounds keeping experience. Possess and maintain a New Jersey Pesticide Applicators License (Core, 3A or 3B) or obtain within six months of hire.

Must be able to maintain pesticide records. Working knowledge of irrigation systems and ability to make small repairs (head replacements, broken pipes). Must have experience in laying out landscape beds and annual bedding material including basic plant identification skills.

Must have excellent attendance and work record. Must have a high degree of attention for detail and care to prevent injury to self and others. Perform all work in strict accordance with accepted trade practices, code requirements and all safety and good housekeeping requirements. Attention to detail necessary.

Must use all required safety and personal protective equipment (including respiratory protection). Be able to read, write and understand oral and written instructions in English, including MSDS directions, chemical product labels, equipment manuals, work orders and be able to carry out work orders as required.

Be able to drive vehicles equipped with standard transmissions. Be willing and able to work overtime as needed and to respond to emergency calls after working hours. Be able to work in all types of weather conditions.

Be able to lift and move heavy objects regularly. Be able to climb ladders, work at heights and in confined spaces. Have above average interpersonal communication skills. Be able to calculate mathematically.

Preferred Qualifications:
Formal education in turf management, landscape contracting, horticulture or a similar field.Experience in the maintenance of grounds at a golf course, college or corporate campus, and/or athletic field complex.Experience in snow removal operations.
