Assist. Professor, Sociology & Criminal Justice

William Paterson University's Department of Sociology and Criminal Justice invites applications for two temporary one-year teaching positions at the Assistant Professor or Instructor level. The position would begin September 1, 2019 for the 2019-2020 academic year with a teaching load of four undergraduate classes a semester.

Department Overview:

The Department of Sociology & Criminal Justice is proud to serve our diverse student body through undergraduate programs in Sociology and in Criminology & Criminal Justice, as well as through a master's program in Applied Sociology. The department provides related courses in diverse areas of the University's Core Curriculum, including in options serving area requirements in Social & Behavioral Sciences, Diversity & Justice, Civic & Community Engagement, and Global Awareness. Several courses offered by the department support, as well, interdisciplinary major and minor programs in Africana World Studies, Asian Studies, Latin America & Latino Studies, Middle East Studies, Social Justice, and Women's & Gender Studies, as well as the newly-launched BA program in Urban Science & Society.

Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Teaching some combination of the following courses: data analysis, research methods, social stratification, social problems, internship in criminal justice and possibly a capstone thesis course. Some offerings will be held during evening hours.
  • Service to department, college, and university as needed.

Qualifications:

  • Earned Ph.D. in Criminology, Criminal Justice, Sociology or related field by time of position start date is required for appointment at Assistant Professor level; advanced standing ABD may be considered for appointment as Instructor.
  • The successful candidate will demonstrate effective teaching experience, strong research potential, and a commitment to service.

 

Preferred qualifications:

  • Experience teaching two or more of the courses listed above.
