The Opportunity:

Saint Peter’s University Hospital (SPUH), a member of Saint Peter’s Healthcare System, is seeking a Chair for the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology (OB/GYN) to provide strategic and operational leadership to the department. In collaboration with the hospital administration, the Chair will provide visionary leadership towards the institutional goals for innovative, cutting edge obstetrical and gynecological practice coupled with advancements in teaching and research. The Chair has strategic and fiscal oversight for the triumvirate mission and programs within the Department.

Reporting directly to the Chief Medical Officer and working in close collaboration with the senior leadership team of the Healthcare System, the Chair has responsibility and accountability for the clinical and operational performance of all divisions within the Department.  The Chair maintains positive, collegial relationships with all other SPUH Chairs, Chiefs, and Medical Directors, and will be responsible for engaging in community outreach with faculty members.

This position represents an outstanding opportunity for a distinguished physician to provide strategic leadership, direction, and coordination for all clinical, teaching and research components of the Department of Obstetrics & Gynecology at Saint Peter’s, while working collaboratively with medical and administrative leadership to meet and exceed the system’s goals.  The position is a full-time Department Chair role that will enable a physician to run a successful department while continuing to work in clinical practice.

As primary responsibility, the Chair will maintain the highest quality of medical care for the Department while growing volume. The Chair actively supports and promotes patient safety, continuous performance and quality improvement, risk management and efficient resource utilization linked to evidence-based medicine. The Chair will provide leadership, ensuring a high level of cooperation and communication among faculty and staff and will be personally responsible for promoting and maintaining excellence and integrity in teaching, research, patient care and enhancing the quality of training in the Department.

The Chair must have a proven track record as an effective leader and manager of staff/faculty, voluntary physician staff, medical support staff, and other personnel in a highly competitive market.  Furthermore, the ideal candidate will have demonstrated the capability to oversee the financial and business affairs of a department, division or center. Experience with approaches to value-based care and bundling of services is desired though not required. The Chair should be adept at managing change in the current turbulent healthcare environment.
