Director of Enterprise Risk and Insurance Manageme

Drew University is accepting applications for a Director of Enterprise Risk and Insurance Management in the Office of Enterprise Risk and Insurance Portfolio Management within the Division of Finance and Administration. The Director of Enterprise Risk and Insurance Management is a newly created position and is an integral element of the University’s recently organized Enterprise Risk Management Office. The Director is responsible for leading a pre-emptive, collaborative, and sustainable approach to risk assessment, management and mitigation for the institution. Working in partnership with departments across campus, the position is responsible for approaching risk and loss control matters with a problem-solving perspective that contributes to the University accomplishing its mission-related educational goals. The position’s responsibilities and interests encompass a broad perspective across campus that involves the safety of students, employees and visitors; protection of physical and financial assets; maintenance of reputation; and continuity of operation as an institution of higher education. Responsibilities include managing the University’s property and casualty insurance programs, leading realistic risk assessment and reduction strategies that are sustainable, and facilitating solutions to risk related issues. This position reports to the CFO/Vice President for Finance and Administration. It is supported by a full-time Administrative Assistant.

Key Responsibilities:

Establishes, maintains, and leads effective and proactive loss control and risk awareness programs, including working with the University’s internal auditors on strategic enterprise risk management initiatives and chairing the University Enterprise Risk Management Committee. The Director will periodically join the CFO to report about risk management and insurance issues to the Board of Trustees’ Audit Committee.

  • Identifies and investigates exposures related to loss or damage to property, income, reputation, and/or personnel.

  • Manages the University’s property and liability insurance programs, including the coordination of claims and loss recovery management.

  • Responsible for compliance with regulatory requirements.  Ensures that controls are in place to manage risk and assess the strengths of the controls.

Requirements:

Education:

Graduate degree in law, finance, risk management, or other related field. Certified Risk and Compliance Management Professional (CRCMP).

Experience:

At least eight years of related work experience in risk management, insurance, or related fields in a higher education residential campus environment.

Skills:

Excellent negotiation and analytical skills. Strong commitment to customer service and exceptional interpersonal skills working with administrators, faculty, students and peers in responding to the needs of the University community.

Demonstrated experience with insurance, finance, legal, loss control, claims management, and risk information systems.

Superior ability to clearly and concisely communicate at all levels. Working knowledge of risk management, insurance principles and practices, workers’ compensation, and loss control management. Knowledge of current Microsoft and Google desktop applications. Ability to interpret and analyze financial, technical and accident data. Ability to provide training to varying levels of staff, administration and faculty. Knowledge of emergency management and business continuity practices.
