Director of the School of the Arts

DIRECTOR OF THE SCHOOL OF THE ARTS

 

The University of Nebraska at Omaha College of Communication, Fine Arts and Media seeks a qualified Director for its newly established School of the Arts.

 Description: The Director will serve as the academic and administrative officer of the School of the Arts, reporting to the Dean of the College of Communication, Fine Arts and Media. The Director will (1) demonstrate a proven track record of collaboration and visionary leadership along with a history of shared governance; (2) have managerial and leadership responsibilities for the School’s operation, including development and implementation of the goals and objectives, faculty and staff development, and programmatic oversight; (3) work closely with the University of Nebraska Foundation including expanding donor relations, fundraising efforts, and external partnerships; (4) expand and lead faculty and student recruitment efforts; (5) engage with the general public and arts community; (6) have additional duties in teaching contingent upon the candidate's qualifications, background and interests; (7) have an understanding of the arts and their social, political and economic dimensions; and (8) outstanding interpersonal and communicative skills. 

The Director is a key member of the Dean’s Executive Committee – a highly collaborative, consultative and dynamic group of directors who work closely to advance their Schools’ and College’s missions.

Rank and Salary: This is a three-year renewable appointment for a full-time, twelve-month administrator/faculty position.  Tenure will be determined prior to hiring.  Salary commensurate with experience.

Required Qualifications:

  • A terminal degree in one of the three units within the School of the Arts (Art & Art History, Theatre, Writer’s Workshop) and a familiarity with the other two.
  • An established record of distinguished research, teaching, creative activity and service sufficient to warrant appointment at the rank of Associate or Full Professor.
  • A minimum of five years of administrative experience in a higher education setting.
  • Demonstrated leadership, superior organizational and communicative skills.
  • A record of relevant teaching/research/creative activity in art disciplines that would warrant tenure.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Seven years of previous administrative experience in a higher education setting.
  • Knowledge and experience in assessment, accreditation, recruitment, marketing, events and facility management.
  • Demonstrated commitment and ability to work with a diverse group of students, faculty, staff and constituents in support of campus and department mission.
  • Expertise and commitment to community engagement.
  • Experience with fundraising/alumni relations.
