Description of Work
The Durham School of Architectural Engineering and Construction at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln ( UNL ) (http://engineering.unl.edu/durhamschool/) invites applications for an Assistant Professor of Practice position. This is a non-tenure track 9-month faculty appointment (paid over 12 months). The UNL College of Engineering is undergoing an exciting period of significant growth, related in part to the University joining the Big Ten Conference and the College anticipates hiring several new faculty members. The Durham School consists of approximately 30 tenure/tenure-track faculty, 500 undergraduate students, and 100 graduate students, offering programs in both Omaha (The Peter Kiewit Institute) and in Lincoln. The Durham School has a significant endowment (the only endowed unit in the College of Engineering) and world-class industry ties. The Construction Industry Advisory Board is active and represents about 50 companies many positioned within the ENR Top 100.
This position will primarily focus on instructional programs and participate in the School's outreach and service activities. The successful candidate is expected to contribute to undergraduate instructional programs and demonstrate a commitment to excellence in teaching and service to the industry. The position will be expected to be significantly involved in the School's and College's teaching mission including development of course materials, lecturing, holding office hours, preparing and grading assignments and exams, managing and grading class projects, and coordinating teaching assistants who serve as lab instructors, and graders. In addition, they will be expected to participate in a variety of non-class activities which support the teaching and learning mission.
Minimum Required Qualifications
The successful candidate must possess a Bachelor of Science in Construction Management or a closely-related field, e.g., engineering, as well as a strong record of exemplary accomplishments in the construction industry and not less than ten (10) years of construction experience in a progressive series of responsible positions.
Preferred Qualifications
Preferred candidates will possess an advanced degree, e.g., MS Construction Science, MS Engineering, Master of Architecture, MBA , JD, or Ph.D., plus licensing as a registered professional engineer or architect and/or certification from LEED , AIC , or other nationally/internationally recognized accreditation organizations would be preferred.
Ideal candidates will demonstrate strong experience in at least two of the following priority area(s) of emphasis: project management, VDC / BIM , estimating, scheduling, budgets and controls, construction contracts, safety, materials and equipment, MEP systems, structures, advanced layout and field verification ( BIM , scanning, drones, etc.) and software currency (Revit, Navisworks, OST , Bluebeam, Planswift/Plangrid, P6, ASTA , Procore, etc).
Preferred candidates should demonstrate previous successful teaching experience in engineering and/or construction through formal classroom settings or in professional industry settings (internal company training courses, professional short courses, etc.).
