Associate Content Director - WDAV

 

The Associate Content Director works in conjunction with the General Manager/Content Director in strategizing and devising programming to effectively present classical music via the radio and online.  As an on-air host, the Associate Content Director models a polished presentation style that is knowledgeable but congenial and seeks to demystify classical music to make it acceptable to the broadest possible audience through both live and produced programming.  The Associate Content Director develops "tune in" occasions via special features to increase listening; creates special programming focuses to enlighten WDAV's audiences about the range of classical music; and supervises the promotion of content on air.  This position is also responsible for working with the Director of Digital Media and Strategy to strategize around and produce online content.  The Associate Content Director's role extends beyond the station's signal and internet stream to the greater community through personal appearances where s/he will act as the voice of the station.  

 

WDAV is a 100,000 watt NPR member station that serves Charlotte, Winston-Salem, and the North Carolina Piedmont. The station is licensed to Davidson College in Davidson, North Carolina.

 

Duties of this position include:

  1. Schedule music and announce a daily classical music air shift; participate in on-air fundraisers.  Host and produce other programs and features as assigned.   Write and produce original announcements for development, underwriting, promotions, etc., as assigned.  Other miscellaneous hosting duties as assigned.
  2. Evaluate available content for appropriateness on WDAV’s program schedule and website.  Content evaluation may include:  Classical music programs and other potential on-air content, written content for online use, podcast content, and any other content to be considered for use on air or online.  Position is responsible for some social media posting, blog content creation, and ongoing development of brief program descriptions.
  3. Maintain the weekly air shift schedule and arrange for substitute hosts as needed with approval from Content Director.  Mentor and train other on air hosts as required.
  4. Develop special ongoing features throughout the program schedule, devise special programming focuses in conjunction with the general manger/content director and other programming staff, and coordinate the on air promotion of programs and features.
  5. Make public appearances at station-sponsored events as assigned.

 

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree
  • Minimum of three years hosting classical music programming on the radio and/or internet

 

Preferred Qualifications:

  •  Public radio experience preferred
  •  Full-time hosting experience preferred
