Summary: The Host/Reporter works under the supervision of the News Director. The Host/Reporter hosts daily broadcasts of NPR's All Things Considered , and may also be asked to host Morning Edition or the WFDD Noon Newscast. The Host/Reporter uses solid news judgment to identify news topics of importance to a 32-county region, writes and re-writes copy and scripts for clear delivery and ease of understanding for a radio and online audience. This position also produces spot news as well as in-depth radio features and special reports as assigned for broadcast and/or online platforms.

Essential Functions:

• Hosts local breaks during NPR's All Things Considered . May anchor the noon newscast or host Morning Edition and other station programs.
• Selects and researches topics. Contacts and interviews sources. Maintains notes and audio recordings. Writes and edits reports. Produces and voices reports for air. Produces news as assigned by News Director. Reports stories in appropriate forms for broadcast (live on-air, copy, actuality, cut & copy, voicer, wrap, feature, series, documentary, and studio two-way.). Occasionally serves regional and national networks. Posts stories to WFDD website. Posts to NCPRA shared news site on Content Depot, as appropriate. Uses station social media accounts to source and promote stories.
• Attends meetings. If assigned a beat specialty, reads and follows major developments in specialty. Subscribes to pertinent publications and attends related events. Maintains contact lists and files for on-going continuity of coverage and accumulation of knowledge. Proactively participates in the creative cycle of story and program origination with News Team.
• Responsible for appropriate record keeping, correspondence, phone calls, supplies and equipment.
• Participates in station fundraising and community-building events.
• Adheres to deadlines and, in concert with appropriate staff, makes timely and effective decisions in situations requiring prompt attention. The Host/Reporter works in close concert with other staff and under the supervision of the News Director, assisting in identifying, developing and creating programs that support WFDD's overall mission. Works with college interns in the studio to train them in radio hosting and production skills.

Required Education, Knowledge, Skills, Abilities:

• A four-year degree or equivalent required. Minimum five years full-time professional, experience in broadcast journalism.
• Must have demonstrated ability to clearly deliver live news reports in a conversational manner.
• Must have experience in news-gathering, writing, editing and radio production for short-form and long-form reports.
• Demonstrates ability to work within a live broadcast environment.
• Displays knowledge of and adherence to high personal and ethical standards.
• Possesses effective communication and interpersonal skills. Must have excellent writing, grammar and spelling skills.
• Must have excellent memory for details, be able to meet daily deadlines under pressure and deal effectively with simultaneous tasks.
• Ability to travel.
• Ability to meet the requirements of the University's automobile insurance.
• Proficiency in on-line research, word processing, digital editing, operation of studio mixers/boards and equipment, and operation of light office equipment.

Preferred Education, Knowledge, Skills, Abilities:

• Experience in a public radio news environment.
• Possesses broad knowledge of local and regional issues.
• Web posting and social media experience.
• Experience with on-air news delivery, hosting and fundraising.
• Ability to work well both independently and in a small group.
• Ability to lift light equipment (approximately five pounds).

Accountabilities:
