Assistant Professor of English

The Department of English at Winston-Salem State University invites applications for a tenure-track faculty position at the rank of Assistant Professor beginning August 2015. We seek strong candidates to teach and advise undergraduate students, conduct research and mentor undergraduate research, and engage with and provide service to the broader public. 

We welcome candidates with a background in American and African-American Literature who will contribute to our undergraduate degree program in English and minor program in African-American Literature and who can work collaboratively across disciplines.  

Special consideration will be given to candidates with a demonstrated commitment to interdisciplinary teaching and research interests that include but are not limited to critical race theory, literature of the African diaspora, gender studies, and post-colonial studies. 

Also, we welcome candidates with interests in working collaboratively to enhance the strengths of curricular and co-curricular programs across the arts, humanities, sciences, business, and education.  

  • Background in American and African-American Literature to teach in undergraduate degree program in English and minor program in African-American Literature; 
  • Ability to work collaboratively across disciplines 
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills  

Ph.D. in English or a closely related field by the time of appointment in August 2015 

In addition, applicants must demonstrate excellent communication and interpersonal skills as well as a commitment to a liberal arts education in a diverse educational environment.
