Admissions Counselor (783-141)

Position Summary: In a highly selective admissions environment, serves as a voting member of the admissions committee responsible for the recruitment and selection of applicants to the University.

Essential Functions:

  • As the sole presenter, creates and conducts daily group admissions information sessions for prospective students and parents (Over 20,000 visitors per year.) Responsible for constant updating and revising of the presentation in conjunction with the University's integrated marketing initiatives.
  • Conducts admissions interviews, imparting information about the University to prospective students and parents, evaluating the applicant's suitability for admission to Wake Forest. Counsels families concerning the applicant's course selection, extra-curricular pursuits and chances for admission to Wake Forest. Also counsels families on financial aid and scholarship opportunities.
  • Collects data, plans and executes admissions travel to specified geographical regions serving as the University's admissions representative and liaison to secondary schools and students in the region. Determines how best to disseminate information about Wake Forest to specific markets and tailors admissions activities accordingly. Educates and updates guidance professionals and prospective students concerning the University's mission, characteristics and accomplishments. Evaluates effectiveness of travel and makes adjustments for subsequent visits.
  • Coordinates and serves as admissions representative for admissions receptions in metropolitan areas involving Wake Forest alumni, faculty and administrators.
  • Reads and evaluates over 2,000 admissions applications annually in a highly selective environment. Sits on the admissions committee as a full voting member making subjective evaluations of applicants for admission to the University. Critiques complex admissions essays and evaluates candidates' demonstrated talents, character and potential contributions to Wake Forest. May independently contact secondary guidance professionals or recommenders to solicit clarification or additional information concerning applicants. Must maintain confidentiality concerning sensitive personal and academic information submitted in the application process by applicants, guidance professionals or others.
  • Plans and oversees the implementation of special on campus recruitment programs, assigning duties to support staff, fellow admissions professionals and student volunteers. Determines budgetary needs for each program and insures that each program stays within budget.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.

Education/Experience: BA/BS preferred, or three to four years college coursework with a strong academic record and wide range of collegiate co-curricular experience.

Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:

  • Knowledge of Wake Forest academic and extracurricular programs.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to work effectively with a wide range of constituencies in a diverse community.
  • Excellent communication skills, both oral and written.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality of information.
  • Knowledge of budget development and management.
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite, including PowerPoint, Word, Excel, the Internet and other relevant software.
  • Ability to travel extensively.
  • Valid driver license with good driving record; must be insurable.

Physical Requirements: Sedentary work. Not substantially exposed to adverse environmental conditions.
