Assistant Professor of Technical Communication

The English Department at North Carolina State University is seeking applicants for a position as an Assistant Professor of Technical Communication; applicants at the advanced assistant professor level may also be considered. We seek candidates with a focus on workplace communication and research interests in technical communication management (e.g., project management, publication management), visual communication, and/or data visualization. The successful candidate will also direct our internship program, which helps undergraduate and graduate students apply their communication skills in the workplace. As the Internship Director, the candidate will administer the program (e.g., promotion, internship placement, communication with employers) and teach the undergraduate and graduate internship courses, on a rotating basis.

A person with the above scholarly interests will also be an important contributor to the doctoral program in Communication, Rhetoric, and Digital Media (CRDM), the MS program in Technical Communication (MSTC), and the English BA (Language, Writing and Rhetoric concentration). Teaching load commensurate with agreed-upon duties.

Qualifications: Ph.D. in Technical Communication or related field, with knowledge of and research interests related to workplace communication, technical communication management, and/or distributed knowledge work. Industry experience in technical communication preferred. Competitive candidates will have a research record commensurate with an appointment at the assistant or advanced assistant rank.
