Primary Function of Organizational Unit
The Office of Strategic Brand Management seeks to capitalize on our rising brand awareness to help the university accomplish its goals and achieve its potential. The results? Improved rankings, bright students and faculty, strong partnerships, and proud alumni.

Our team provides leadership and guidance in managing existing university business sponsorships, developing new business relationships, internal and external brand management, and trademark management and licensing. We're responsible for managing approved uses of any NC State logo, image or copy used by or in conjunction with any university business, nonprofit or agency partner. And we evaluate requests to film on NC State's campus.

Essential Job Duties
Reporting to the Director of Trademark Licensing and Brand Protection in the Office of Strategic Brand Management, the Assistant Director is responsible for coordinating, managing, and promoting the appropriate use of NC State's brand identity (names, logos, designs, trademarks, etc.) and related intellectual property assets on a day to day basis. The Assistant Director will also work with University stakeholders and external constituents to develop, implement and service licensing programs, brand partnerships, and retail opportunities, as well as assist in data analysis, report generation and organizing the University's Trademark Licensing efforts.

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to the following:
  • Assisting in the management of programs and evaluating, monitoring, and reporting on market trends that will lead to development of new and innovative concepts for trademark licensing; includes projects such as retail recognition programs, benchmarking peer programs, market segment optimization, and improving brand engagement.
  • Working with the University's licensing agency to enhance the strength of the trademark licensing program through in-depth analysis and investigation of key product categories and retail channels that can identify opportunities for additional revenue, fan engagement and brand awareness.
  • Building partnerships with other University departments on brand-building ideas that serve to enhance and further support the University brand and identity.
  • Receiving and managing trademark- and licensing-related inquiries and requests, and facilitate the approval process; promoting awareness and compliance with University brand and licensing standards; performing marketplace surveys and helping identify infringing and non-infringing merchandise, and coordinating licensing infringement enforcement activities with the University's licensing agency, the Office of University Counsel and others as necessary.
  • Providing project organization and research assistance; helping design and lead appropriate programs that can provide a structured introduction to departments and general public on University trademark licensing policies.
  • Developing content and managing the Trademarks and Licensing website and social media presence in coordination with other appropriate departments; developing and executing promotional and marketing plans and events; and develop retailer relationships.
  • Reviewing and approving artwork. Evaluating licensing requests and providing decision recommendations.

Minimum Experience/Education
Bachelor's degree and one year of experience related to the area of assignment; or equivalent combination of training and experience.

All degrees must be received from appropriately accredited institutions.

Preferred Experience, Skills, Training/Education
  • Four-year college degree
  • At least two years experience in trademark licensing, merchandising, brand marketing or related field; or equivalent combination of training and experience
  • Proficient in Google, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint
  • Experience working with social media networks, including Facebook, Twitter and Instagram.
  • Strong written and oral communication skills to be able to communicate with and present to large groups, executive, or senior administrators
  • Some travel may be required
