SYSTEMS PROGRAMMER/ANALYST - ADVANCED

Job Description: East Carolina University is recruiting for a Systems Programmer Analyst (#908607) to provide technical expertise in the daily support of the campus enterprise storage environment. These systems require a high level of availability and system security, as they are critical to the functions of the university. This position functions in a high technical capacity in a team environment, and is responsible for the development of long-term plans within their focus areas. The employee in this position is a skilled technical resource for other team members and other teams. This includes managing projects that have a high impact utilizing state of the art technologies and forming and maintaining strategic technology contacts and partnerships within the university and externally with key technology suppliers, vendors, manufacturers, and other universities.
Specific duties of this position may include disk array and storage area network (SAN) management, resource monitoring, problem identification/resolution, code/patch management, disaster recovery planning/testing, hardware/software installation, troubleshooting and maintenance. The selected candidate will be responsible for leading/assisting various storage projects including upgrades, system automation, capacity planning, overall security of the storage environment, and researching new storage products and technologies. Candidates should have knowledge and experience with the aforementioned technologies in an enterprise IT environment, and should be familiar with Microsoft Windows Server, Red Hat Linux, basic scripting, storage and network protocols. Related certifications in the storage or networking field would be considered a plus.
This position assists other support teams and university end-users with resolving challenging problems and will also be responsible for gathering requirements and proposing solutions to customer challenges. This position performs technical assistance in the resolution of service requests as well as initiates requests to other teams and external support entities as needed. The employee must demonstrate the ability to quickly assess faults under pressure and take corrective action in a mission critical environment. Employees on this team are required to adjust their standard work schedules to include occasional evening and weekend hours to meet scheduled and unscheduled workload requirements to maintain campus IT operations, and duties include On-Call responsibilities.


Minimum Qualifications: Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Computer Information Systems, Computer Engineering, or closely related degree from an appropriately accredited institution; and three years of experience in operations analysis and design systems programming or closely related area; or Associate's degree in Computer Information Technology, Computer Engineering Technology or Networking Technology from an appropriately accredited institution and four years of experience in operations analysis and design, systems programming or closely related area; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.


Special Instructions to Applicants: This position is subject to the Career Banding Salary Administration Plan. If candidates are not identified at the Advanced level, management may consider candidates at a lower competency level. Pay will be commensurate with applicant's competencies as well as budget, equity, and market considerations.
Salary Grade Equivalent: 79 (for reduction-in-force priority purposes only)
