POSTDOCTORAL SCHOLAR

Job Description: The postdoctoral scholar is responsible for the independent and collaborative development, implementation, and analysis of scientific research in the disciplines of type 2 diabetes, exercise, and skeletal muscle metabolism.

The position is available to investigate the role of intracellular Ca2+ and calmodulin kinase (CaMK)
signaling in the regulation of skeletal muscle metabolism and hypertrophic growth.

A wide range of innovative and multidisciplinary approaches will be employed including: in vivo
muscle gene transfer techniques; radiolabel tracer studies; in vivo, in situ and ex vivo muscle contraction experiments; enzyme activity assays; metabolite assays; as well as other biochemical assays such as immunoblotting and immunohistochemistry.

The duties include hypothesis development, literature review, data collection, review of data for quality control, data entry/analysis, data statistical analysis, manuscript and/or grant writing and revising, and the development of independent and collaborative presentations and publications. In addition, postdoctoral scholars will be expected to participate in the supervision of undergraduate and graduate research students during experimental procedures and data entry/analysis.

Approximately 95% of the postdoctoral scholar's time will be devoted to research.

Approximately 5% of the postdoctoral scholar's time will be devoted to managing the day-to-day activity of undergraduate and graduate research students in the laboratory.


Minimum Qualifications: The candidate should have a PhD degree in the biomedical sciences, such as biochemistry, physiology, molecular biology or exercise science. Interested candidates must be able to work independently, be self-motivated, and have at least one first-authored paper in a peer-reviewed journal at the time of application. The ability to work effectively in a research team is essential. Excellent written and oral communication skills and English proficiency are also required.
