ECULA INSTRUCTOR

Job Description: The ECU Language Academy (ECULA) is an intensive English as a Second Language (ESL) program for students who plan to enter an undergraduate or graduate degree program at ECU. ECULA is seeking applications for short-term Instructional Consultants to lead one or more non-credit courses during 2017.

The ECULA part-time instructor is responsible for all aspects of assigned classes. These primarily include:
-Preparing lessons
-Teaching ESL lessons
-Assigning homework, grading it and returning it to the student the following day
-Advising students in matters pertaining to their successful adaptation to the United States and the university environment

Additional required duties:
-Creating, administering and grading examinations in all courses taught
-Working with the director and other instructors to craft school curriculum and course content
-Crafting and revising syllabi and distributing them to the students on the first day of class
-Preparing and administering periodic tests and quizzes and evaluating student progress; reporting on progress to the director
-Returning graded tests to the student the following day and reviewing the test with the student as needed
-Holding regular office hours
-Meeting with and advising students as needed
-Distributing student evaluations
-Attending all faculty meetings
-Reviewing potential course materials
-Assisting with the coordination of outside personnel as needed for scheduling of student visits


Minimum Qualifications: A master's degree in TESOL, English, linguistics, modern languages, or other relevant field, or equivalent

At least one year's teaching ESL at high school or university level

Qualifying degrees must be received from appropriately accredited institutions and be conferred by the time of hire
