DIRECTOR OF LEARNING & ORGANIZATIONAL DEVELOPMENT

Job Description: The Director of Learning and Organizational Development (LO&D) is a member of the Human Resources Leadership Team and reports to the Associate Vice Chancellor of Human Resources. The Director manages a comprehensive organizational development program that facilitates the professional development and continuous learning of the university's human resources in support of the mission, strategic plan and operating goals of the institution.

This position utilizes a consultative approach and partners with leaders, administrators, faculty and staff in enabling departments/units to maximize their efficiency, thereby enabling them to achieve their organizational goals and ensure organizational continuity. This position leads and manages the instructional design, development, delivery and evaluation of learning events, programs, policies and strategies in support of a high performing learning organization. The Director will have continuous involvement in formulating, interpreting and implementing institutional policies, and will exercise substantial independent judgment, administrative authority and discretion in areas such as needs assessment, consultation, leadership development, program design, resource allocation, and evaluation of outcomes to ensure best practices are incorporated and objectives are achieved.

The Director of LO&D will define, create and manage strategies for the design, implementation and evaluation of programs that facilitate the professional development, leadership development and continuous learning for all employees. Specific responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

-performs needs assessments and reviews organization resources to ensure that learning and development resources exist or are developed to support learning needs based upon projected competencies, organizational changes, and other external factors, as well as the near and long-term goals of the organization;
-utilizes organizational development theory, best practices and approaches (ADDIE model, etc.) to develop and implement effective, comprehensive programs and learning opportunities;
-develops relevant metrics to analyze and evaluate the effectiveness of programs and services offered through L&OD, ensuring their relevancy to the overall mission of the University as well as short and long term strategic planning initiatives;
-in collaboration with other areas, facilitates a comprehensive onboarding and Employee First Year Experience program for faculty and staff focused on the retention, engagement and success of new employees; develops and delivers comprehensive training programs and learning events to meet the professional development and continuing education needs focused on supervisory, management and leadership development for all employee types, while developing and communicating clear training goals and measures of success against these objectives; continually develops and facilitates new and innovative formal and informal learning opportunities including, but not limited to workshops, lunch and learns, on demand learning, retreats, certificate programs, book clubs, administrative professional conferences, leadership academies, mentoring programs, etc.;
-manages the L&OD unit by recruiting, selecting, orienting and training employees, communicating job expectations, assigning work, establishing goals, evaluating performance, coaching and counseling when necessary.


Minimum Qualifications: A Master's degree in human resource management, adult education, business administration, organizational psychology or other related field and a minimum of four years of directly-related program development experience demonstrating the competencies needed to perform the work is required.
