ASSISTANT DIRECTOR

Job Description: The Assistant Director works as a member of a team supporting student development through a series of service and leadership programs designed to assist students in fostering the skills, knowledge, competencies, and values necessary to become effective leaders and citizens. The programs offer students basic skills training as well as opportunities for personal growth, networking, and capacity building that provide a foundation for ethical action and commitment throughout their lives. Programs may include: voter engagement, Career Leadership, Walter and Marie Williams Leadership Award, LeaderShape and ECU Leads which may require some nights or weekend work. The Assistant Director position reports to the Associate Director of Curricular Programs of the Center and supervises a Graduate Assistant, as well as student staff.

This person works with service-learning students to identify appropriate service-learning sites and community partners, supports faculty to ensure communication of logistics and relevant information on service-learning sites through in-class presentations and/or individual consultations. The Assistant Director supports integrative learning experiences through effective planning, implementation and assessment of current initiatives, and develops additional experiences that foster responsible citizenship.

This is a professional position with responsibilities having a direct impact on the quality of students' educational experiences and interaction with their peers, as well as the campus community at large.

The Assistant Director will support recruitment and selection of community partners and serve as liaison for the center and support national days of service hosted by the center. This person will serve as a staff lead on Alternative Break Experience trips. To remain current on best practices, this person will engage in ongoing professional development related to service-learning, leadership education, voter engagement, community-campus partnerships, etc.


Minimum Qualifications: Master's degree in leadership education, college student affairs, higher education administration, student personnel, counseling, or related field required. Two years relevant experience in higher education setting working directly with students. Strong interpersonal and communication skills (written and verbal), organizational skills, the ability to manage multiple priorities, and the willingness to communicate and work effectively with diverse populations. Commitment to teamwork and collaboration.
