The University of North Carolina at Charlotte invites applications and nominations for the Chair of the Department of Kinesiology, one of four units in the College of Health and Human Services. This is a twelve-month position with an earliest start date of July 1, 2018. UNC Charlotte is North Carolina’s urban research university (www.uncc.edu). The 1,000-acre campus serves a diverse and growing student body of over 29,000, including 5,400 graduate students enrolled in a variety of masters and doctoral programs, and over 1,000 full-time faculty.

 

Charlotte is a dynamic, diverse region of 2.3 million people with a strong, diversified economic base that supports outstanding cultural and recreational amenities, major health facilities, and a major international airport. Strong existing relationships with world-class local medical and orthopedic industries provide excellent opportunities for collaborations with the Department of Kinesiology.

 

Department

The Department of Kinesiology (www.kinesiology.uncc.edu) consists of approximately 23 faculty serving over 1,000 students in both undergraduate and graduate programs. At the undergraduate level, the Department currently offers BS degrees in Athletic Training, Exercise Science, Neurodiagnostic & Sleep Science, and Respiratory Therapy. At the graduate level, the Department currently offers M.S. degrees in Kinesiology and Respiratory Care. A MS degree in Athletic Training is in development. Additionally, the department participates in interdisciplinary PhD programs in both biology and health services research.

 

Qualifications

The successful candidate must have an earned doctorate in Kinesiology/Exercise Science, or a life sciences related field (including Exercise Physiology, Biomechanics, Athletic Training) and be eligible for appointment as Professor. Consequently, a successful candidate is expected to have a record of successful teaching experience at both the undergraduate and graduate level, and successful scholarship and grantsmanship, as well as interpersonal and management skills to lead a dynamic and growing department, a commitment to fostering and promoting diversity in the Department’s initiatives, and the ability to promote interdisciplinary collaboration and community partnerships. Prior administrative or academic leadership experience is preferred.
