The Associate Dean for Performing Arts is a new, tenure-track administrative position in the College of Arts + Architecture (CoAA), which includes five academic units (School of Architecture, Department of Art & Art History, Department of Music, Department of Theatre, and Department of Dance) and the Design & Production Unit, which will be the direct responsibility of this new administrative position. The college has approximately 110 full-time faculty, 1100 students, 40 part-time/adjunct instructors, and 35 staff.

The Associate Dean for Performing Arts reports to the Dean and works with the Chairs of the Dance, Music and Theatre Departments with regard to season scheduling and production and academic support associated with college performances and events. This position has two direct reports: the CoAA Performing Arts Operations Manager and the CoAA Production Manager. The Performing Arts Operations Manager oversees the Performing Arts Recharge Unit and the college’s performing arts venues (housed in Robinson Hall for the Performing Arts and Rowe Hall). The Production Manager leads the CoAA Design & Production Unit, which includes lecturers in Lighting Design, Costume Design, Stage Management, Sound Design, Master Electrician and Technical Direction. The Associate Dean for Performing Arts oversees the academic mission of the Design & Production Unit (working in collaboration with the performing arts Chairs and the Production Manager).

The Design & Production Unit supports college performances and events both directly and through practicum and introductory courses taught by unit lecturers. The Associate Dean for Performing Arts also works with the Director of Communications & External Relations, the Box Office/Marketing Manager, the Director of Galleries, and the Associate Dean for Academic Affairs. In addition to administrative duties, which includes strategic planning, budget planning and management, and program reporting related to the unit, the Associate Dean for Performing Arts is expected to teach at least one course per semester. These courses may include advanced discipline-specific courses, non-majors courses in the arts (which constitute an important aspect of the university’s general education program), and courses offered as part of the CoAA honors program.

The Associate Dean for Performing Arts is a 12-month position with a faculty appointment in one of the performing arts units, reporting directly to the College Dean.

Qualifications: Successful candidates must possess a terminal degree in a performing arts discipline(PhD preferred), have a professional background and/or experience in the performing arts, and have evidence of excellence inadministration, teaching and research.

Rank: Associate or Full Professor.
