Associate Dir. of Admissions-Diversity Recruitment

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Recruit Prospective Students by:

  • Planning and executing all recruiting operations necessary to meet recruiting and enrollment targets within assigned geographic area of responsibility
  • Traveling extensively to make professional recruiting presentations to individuals and large groups in high schools, community colleges, and at evening programs; conducting presentations which include information on academic programs, costs, housing, financial aid, scholarships, application processes and visitation programs; travel within geo-market(s) in North Carolina and potential out of state areas
  • Conducting extensive and personal outreach, communication and relation-building (by phone, e-mail, written correspondence, and social media) with prospective students, applicants, and admitted and paid students to foster relations and to assist students (and parents) in any way possible throughout the recruitment cycle from prospect to enrolled student, and with other influencers (parents, counselors, etc.) as appropriate

Leading the planning and coordination for recruitment and increased enrollment of diverse / underrepresented students by:

  • In conjunction with Director and Senior Associate Director, developing and monitoring comprehensive diversity recruitment plan, to include targets and strategies for implementation by other recruiters and office staff and data analysis strategies to track recruitment activities
  • Leading, monitoring, and coordinating all activities of the diversity recruitment unit; supervising, planning, and directing the activities for two (2) EPA staff/recruiters who share responsibility for diversity recruiting, in addition to their geographic areas of responsibility
  • Identifying key markets for diverse students; developing and implementing specific communication plans and strategies targeting these diverse students
  • Putting in place mechanisms and strategies for tracking and communicating with these students throughout the admissions cycle until enrollment
  • Establishing relationships with key high school, community colleges, and community organizations who work directly with large populations of diverse / underrepresented students

Assist with On-Campus Recruiting Operations by:

  • Meeting with prospective students, parents and spouses to answer questions and discuss admissions requirements, college costs, financial aid and scholarships, residency, housing, academics, student life, and any other areas of interest to and relevant to the visiting student and their parent(s)
  • Conducting routine Admissions presentations to prospective students and parents
  • Leading, supporting, and participating in all on-campus recruiting events, with direct planning and execution support required for events targeting primarily diverse / underrepresented students

Assist with Applicant Decisions by:

  • Developing and maintaining clear understanding of admission standards, college placement tests, admission restrictions and exceptions
  • Review files and provide admission recommendations

 

Physical Demands of Position

  • Ability to lift boxes of travel materials, extensive travel during fall and spring travel seasons, ability to stand for long periods of time at college fairs.

Minimum Qualifications

  • The formal education equivalent of a Bachelor’s degree with a major in college student personnel, public administration, general business or related field
  • At least two years of experience in student admissions, student recruitment or related area in a post-secondary institution. Other job related education and/or experience may be substituted for all or part of these basic requirements
  • Demonstrated knowledge of and experience in program development; good knowledge of techniques and procedures used in program development (e.g. planning, coordinating, administrating, record-keeping)
  • Demonstrated knowledge and experience with best practices for recruitment of diverse / underrepresented students
  • Demonstrated knowledge and experience of a student centered/customer service-oriented philosophy
  • Demonstrated ability to use a computerized student information and reporting system
  • Excellent interpersonal, speaking, and writing skills
  • Strong organizational skills
  • Other job related education and/or experience may be substituted for all or part of these basic requirements
  • Valid driver’s license and ability to rent vehicle. Ability to lift and move 40 pounds.

Preferred Qualifications

  • The formal education equivalent of a Bachelor’s degree with a major in college student personnel, public administration, general business or related field
  • At least two years of experience in student admissions, student recruitment or related area in a post-secondary institution. Other job related education and/or experience may be substituted for all or part of these basic requirements
